HUGGS Indian Dinner and Silent Auction
HUGGS’ Fall Fundraiser was held on Thursday October 15th 2015 at Salam Bombay Restaurant in Downtown Vancouver. Over 100 guests attended and were treated to a magnificent buffet meal consisting of meat and seafood curries, vegetable dishes and several Indian breads. This was followed by a simple Indian dessert and Chai tea. Attendees included many long-term friends and donors of HUGGS’ as well as several new faces. Throughout the evening guests mingled and visited the silent auction to place bids on the generously donated items which included boat cruises, a hotel package, chiropractic services, original art and many restaurant vouchers.
The evening was ‘emceed’ by Nicholas Bodie, HUGGS’ newest Board member, who welcomed guests and provided them with some background on HUGGS’ activities in India such as the Study Centre.
HUGGS founder, Lisa Heel also shared an update on the impact of HUGGS over the years. Lisa’s son Cameron, also helped at the event by getting guests to sign a large Christmas card for the HUGGS students in India, which he had made. The card has since been hand delivered to the students by one of the HUGGS’ Board members who visited Vizag in December.
$3,921 was raised at this successful event, which will go towards funding HUGGS’ educational programs in Vizag, India.

The mission of HUGGS Canada is to provide underprivileged students in India with the opportunity to further their education, enabling them to contribute more effectively to their families and communities.
